The Pioneer Theater

A Great Alternative to a Typical Conference Room

When we bought The Pioneer Theater, it had the distinction of being the oldest movie theater in the country run continuously by one family since its beginning. In doing our upgrades to the building, I’ve honored that legacy by bringing back the original marquis and adding appropriate interior designs. This 242-seat theater is a great alternative to your typical conference room. The seating is comfortable for long conference days, there’s an ample presentation stage and the theater now has state-of-the-art digital capabilities, making any presentations you include in your conference the highest quality. We’ve also added a lounge area that can double as a coffee center.

A Beer Garden with a Twist

Right out the side door is The Pioneer Garden, a beer garden with a twist! We can arrange for a food truck to provide lunch right on site. And, after your day is done, your employees can mingle and enjoy beverages under the stars. And note: Downtown Manteo where our campus is located is a Social District, meaning you can meander our campus blocks with a beer, wine or drink in hand.

The Pioneer Theater

The Pioneer Theater Legacy

This movie theater opened in 1918 and was run by the Creef family until 2023, making it the oldest theater in the country continuously operated by the same owners. It has been the center point of entertainment for islanders. The new owner, Michael Basnight, has restored the structure to its original glory, uncovering the facade, adding back a replica of the marquis and refurbishing the interior.

Pioneer’s Andy Griffith Legacy

The legendary actor Andy Griffith celebrated his movie premiere of A Face in the Crowd in 1957 at The Pioneer Theater. He so loved his Outer Banks roots that he built a soundfront estate here and was able to be just a regular Manteo citizen while in residence. He’s remembered for his lead roles in many television shows including The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock.
